Covid-19 part 1
11:49 AMSo much has gone on the last few weeks and this is definitely history in the making so I wanted to document as much as I can.
Over Christmas break I heard about a virus that was affecting China. I didn't pay much attention to it but saw that it was affecting Wuhan China big time.
There was a little more talk of it in Feb when positive cases of the virus started showing up in the United States.
It wasn't until late Feb and March did it become the talk of the town. There was a nursing home facility in Washington (near where Julia lives) where 12+ residents died from the virus. At this point Washington was a central point for this virus. But it didn't take long that every state was noticing cases and it was spreading quickly.
On March 5th, Maryland reported the first 3 cases to hit the state. And just a week later, schools were shut down for 2 weeks as they saw this virus spreading really quickly. They also said no groups larger than 250 can meet.
It felt all surreal getting the message from the school, that all of a sudden, kids were home for weeks which I wasn't anticipating. Then a few hours later on the same day we got word that church was cancelled worldwide until further notice. The Federal govt set up guidelines to follow for a few weeks to help slow down the spread. They are asking people to stay home and only go our for exercise and grocery trips. And when you are out to stay 6ft feet apart. They believe social distancing is what's best to slow this down before it overruns our hospital.
That day was filled with so much anxiety as I spent so much time processing just what was going on. It didn't feel severe at that point because only 12 cases were reported Maryland and 1 death yet so much action was taking place to avoid it getting bad as other countries were witnessing. Then a few days later, all restaurants (only take-out and delivery)and theaters and gyms were closed.
Here we are 2 weeks since the school shutdown and the United States has the most confirmed cases; over 135,000 positive tests and over 2,220 deaths. It has escalated so fast these last few days. It has hit New York especially hard right now.
But despite all the sadness and uncertainty, so much good is going on. We've had multiple people ring and run treats off at our house this week, which have brightened our day up! We have really missed going to the park and playing with friends. But we have had some awesome quality time as a family, been able to have church at home and lots of down time to work on projects that haven't been getting done (cough, cough like this blog!)
Luckily through this all, we have been blessed with a paycheck. With so many businesses closed, it's so sad how millions of people are without work and unsure when they will they ever be able to go back.
a unknown friend left a card game and treats at our door
someone left a whole box of Krispy Kreme donoughts, they know the way to my kids heart!
the teachers were missing the kids so they did a drive by parade with notes that said "we miss you!" it was super cute!
some funny memes going around that I don't want to forget!
real like social distancing at Costco. This is a line waiting to get in since they only allow a certain amount of people at a time in the store
