Hawaii vacation part 2

12:36 AM

The main attraction for the Big Island is the active volcanos. Although its the biggest island, it's also the newest. There are currently three active volcanos on this island. It was cool that it was flowing into the ocean at the time we were there. We wanted to make sure we carved out a day just for this. After reading lots of reviews, we thought it would be best to rent bikes early in the morning and bike the 8 miles out to where you can view the lava flowing into the ocean.
We were staying at the volcano national park so when I booked 5:00am bike reservations, I thought it would be just fine and we wouldn't have to wake up so early. Well, poor planning on my part, the night before I googled mapped our bike rental and it was gonna be over an hour drive! Nothing like getting up at 3:30 am on your vacation :)

But I have to say it was so worth the bike ride out since no one else was on the path and as you are biking you can see the red glow in the sky. You literally are biking on volcanic rock which is crazy! Along the path you see people building up houses on the volcanic rock. Come to find out, those people used to have land there before the Maunea Loa volcano erupted in 1984 and took out their houses and so now those people are rebuilding there.
While we were there, you can't help but feel how powerful God's creations are. There is so much happening going on beneath us and we kind of got a glimpse and were reminded of that.

Our view when we arrived before sunrise

So crazy to see vegetation among volcanic rock.

It was the most amazing thing I've seen

There were a few falls we still wanted to hit up before we left the Big Island so after we turned in our bikes we headed up to Akaka falls and boiling pots.
Such a tall waterfalls!

I loved all the green!

Probably one of our favorite spots on the island. There were so many pools and waterfalls to swim by!

best nap ever!

Then we came back to hike the Kilauea Iki trail that was 8 miles roundtrip. There were steam vents all over. When you got close you could feel how hot it really was underneath

this was at the national park museum that night, where you can also view active lava
