Locked in
1:43 PM
Let it be known Ladies and Gents, I should be nominated for worst mother of the year award and it's only 11 days into the year!
On monday, I woke up feeling sick and had no motivation to go anywhere......until I realized we were down to one last diaper. So I decided we would make a quick trip to Target. After pulling in I got Evelyn out of her carseat and went to retrieve a cart nearby. During this whole time I'm talking to my mom on the phone and was a little bit distracted. As I went to retrieve the shopping cart, Evelyn had moved her way up to the passenger seat. I pull her out and set her in the cart and shut the door.
shutting the door was the worst mistake.....
unbeknownst to me, Evelyn had locked all the doors and inside the car was my purse, keys and Christian. I panicked and tried all the doors multiple times and sure enough all of them were locked. So now I have one child outside the car and one inside and I desperately need help. I spotted a nice looking lady who just finished shopping and asked her to watch my kids so I could go inside to get a locksmith number or some sort of help(looking back on it, I probably should have taken Evelyn with me just to be safe but I wasn't thinking straight at that moment.)
Luckily Target was so helpful and they got me the number for the non emergency police (which is now stored in my phone ) and within 15 min later, the fireman show up. Poor Christian had been screaming this whole time......I'm just glad it wasn't during the summer when it's 110 degrees outside.
Evelyn was so excited to see a firetruck pull up. She was in awe by it all. One of the fireman came over to talk to Evelyn. And the first thing she proudly said was "I locked my baby brother in the car."
They got the door open and I could finally hug Christian after 25 min of waiting which felt like an eternity. Even during a scary moment like this, there were plenty of tender mercies with it too, like one nice couple that came out of the store saw that I was almost in tears waiting for the fireman to come and was so sweet to wait there with me and never once made me feel like a terrible parent.
So, what intended to be a short trip was a tad bit longer than anticipated but we got our diapers and Christian and Evelyn are safe so it was all worth it!!
